What is the AAPM Education and Research Fund?

Established in 1989, the Education & Research (E&R) Fund supports the medical physics profession by funding strategic research and education programs and awards. In 2025, it funded approximately $662,000 in awards and programs, including research seed grants, mentorship programs, travel grants, PhD student fellowships, distinguished lectureships, travel and tuition awards, and undergraduate fellowships. These fellowships attract outstanding students and promote diversity in the field.

E&R Fund revenue comes from donations by members, local chapters, and peer organizations, as well as AAPM's operations budget. Member gifts are an invaluable source of funding: in 2025, donations totaled $91,728, helping bring the end-of-year fund balance to over $5.2 million. Your contributions are essential to maintaining and growing E&R funded awards in future years.
